MAISON BLEUE
What began as a compact outdoor corner became a layered little retreat, built around a plunge pool and a love of blue and white. Patterned tiles, natural stone, weathered timber and established planting give the space a feeling that it has grown here over time.
A SMALL SPACE WITH A BIG SENSE OF ESCAPE
The pool became the heart of the courtyard, with its tiled interior and sculptural fountain wall setting the tone for everything around it. A built-in stone banquette makes clever use of the perimeter, creating generous seating without crowding the space, while the timber pergola and woven pendants bring shade, texture and that lovely dappled afternoon light.
Rather than over-designing it, we kept the materials honest and tactile, stone, timber, woven fibres, ceramics and layers of indigo textiles. The planting was allowed to soften the harder edges and climb into the architecture, giving the whole courtyard a lush, collected quality.
It’s a relatively small footprint, but that was part of the charm. Every corner needed to earn its place, resulting in a space that feels intimate, relaxed and wonderfully removed from the world outside.
