PROJECT SKYFALL

There was something about the scale of this property that gave it its name. Set high in the Constantia hills, vast, dramatic and wonderfully private, it had an almost cinematic quality — the kind of setting that wouldn’t feel out of place in a Bond film. And so, partly in jest and partly because it simply seemed to fit, it became Project Skyfall.

When we first arrived, the landscape was essentially a blank canvas. It gave us the rare opportunity to shape the garden almost entirely from the ground up, considering not only how it would look immediately, but how it would settle into the architecture and mature over time.

The pool and expansive timber deck became one of the first anchors in the landscape, creating a generous outdoor living space that opens towards the surrounding mountain views. From there, the garden began to develop in layers. Lush tropical planting creates a dramatic sense of arrival at the entrance, while groves of olive trees bring structure, rhythm and a quieter, more established character elsewhere on the property.

Stone has played an equally important role. Skilled stonemasons created the dark stonework that runs throughout the landscape, bringing a sense of weight and permanence against the softer planting. More recently, the paving has been redone in real granite cobbles, an honest, beautifully tactile material that already feels as though it has always belonged here.

Skyfall was never intended to be a landscape completed in a single moment. Over the years, new layers have been added, planting has matured and different areas have been refined as the property itself has evolved. What began as an open piece of land has gradually become a rich, established landscape, one that feels grounded in its extraordinary setting and continues to become more beautiful with time.
