Balcony + Aloe
The client afforded Tone carte blanche in terms of concept and design, resulting in Tone’s decisionto combine the contemporary feel of the building, with its African location.
The Capita Building project was commissioned by the developers, and from start to finish was split over six months, due to ongoing construction. The gardens were created on the ground, first and second floors, as well as the rooftop covering approximately 200sqm of combined balcony space.
The tenant of the building, Capita, is a global business and the UK’s leading provider of business process management and integrated professional support service solutions. The contemporary elements of the building aligned with Capita’s business requirements, and the multiple rooftop gardens needed to integrate into the local environment, yet maintain the simple, clean lines of the architecture.
With this in mind Tone brought in sculptural tree aloes and Juncus grasses. The simplified use of greenery worked beautifully to showcase the architecture and the aloes themselves. The decking and pergola’s added to the warmth of the outside space.
Using a mobile crane, all soil and plants needed to be lifted onto the balconies as there was no access from within the building.
