Indigenous + Vlei

Tone connected the open and flowing feeling of his home with the wide-open space of the vlei and distant mountains. He excavated the land in front of the patio to drop down and open up into the natural vlei, achieving a harmonious flow from inside the home to the garden, and beyond into the view.

Tone Alexander’s previous home was originally two separate properties, the home was designed and built on the rear 700m2 stand. In order to maximise the view, Tone decided to purchased the adjoining property in front of his.

The excavation and leveling of the vlei front property was the most labour intensive aspect of this project, and in order to ensure that the view won the show, the garden was downplayed. Tone only used indigenous plants with pops of blue and white, which blended into the vlei and natural surroundings.
